Summary:
Owner’s Project Engineer will support owner’s engineering efforts and assist development engineering efforts.
This role will serve as the technical lead and primary engineering point of contact for the IPP project execution team supporting execution-phase projects developed by the organization. The role will work closely with internal departments including development, capital markets, and IPP; as well as with EPC contractors), O&M contractors, Independent Engineers, 3rd-party Owners’ Engineers, financing parties, and other consultants, contractors, and stakeholders as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Act as the primary technical resource to the organization's Owner representatives.
Liaise with the development engineering team, CTO, and technical asset management team to support their efforts as required. Infill for the development engineering team as bandwidth allows.
Develop and memorialize processes and procedures to perform owner’s engineering work on projects.
Support technical reviews of EPC, O&M, energy manager, and procurement RFPs and perform associated cost/benefit analyses.
Assist commercial and legal teams with negotiation of EPC, equipment purchase, O&M, lease, and asset management contracts.
Lead value engineering efforts with contractors.
Fulfill the company’s technical Owner obligations to EPC contractors, O&M contractors, asset managers, energy managers, off-takers, interconnection providers, and other counterparties.
Manage all resources internally or externally as necessary to review designs, performance estimates, cost estimates, schedules, and other technical deliverables from contractors.
Support quality assurance and quality control oversight of contractors.
Prepare project update reports and presentations.
Onsite and offsite project representation of the Owner’s technical interests with internal and external stakeholders
Assist construction-period closeout of key project contracts.
Manage relationships with various equipment vendors, contractors, and third-party engineering firms, especially 3rd-party owners’ engineering firms.
Provide technical input assumptions and review of project finance modeling.
Assistance with hiring additional project staff as required.
As applicable, assign the owner’s engineering tasks and train team members to perform them independently.
Support the company continuous improvement activities
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering-related discipline
8+ years of related-industry experience in project engineering, development engineering, or owner’s engineering
Experience with solar and energy storage
Working knowledge of the energy industry and project finance fundamentals
Strong project management skills & ability to work with limited supervision
Self-motivated with a high level of initiative, attention to detail and accountability
Ability to multi-task and work in a deadline-driven environment
Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
Proficiency in using MS Office Suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint
